We took our spring break family trip over to the San Clemente State Beach, where you can camp in your tent or park your RV (if your fancy enough to own one, yes I’m jealous). We planned to stay for 3 nights and 4 days. We left home mid afternoon Thursday and came home Sunday in the early evening. Now I know you don’t wanna hear about how we packed, gathered 3 crazy kids or listened to cheesy songs on the way to the beach, so I’ll spare you the details. But I do wanna touch on our food.
Now we packed our cooler, that we’ve had for years, with all the essentials. Hot dogs, burger patty’s, and of course daddy chefs special smore’s ingredients. It’s about a 20 minute drive so we figured we’d just buy ice at the local liquor store when we got down there. What we didn’t expect was traffic, and when I say traffic, I mean TRAFFIC. A short drive turned into an hour drive. After getting there, unpacking everything and setting up our site, we looked at our food and it was donezo. We didn’t realize it had been 4 or 5 hours since we last touched the food.
We had to go back to the grocery store and buy everything all over again. This time however we got a call from our buddy who came down later that day to stay with us. He said, make sure you don’t buy any ice. I reluctantly agreed. But of course I had to ask WHY??? He said, don’t worry I brought my secret weapon. We get back to the site and he has this cool looking box with some tire tracks on it. I look closer and he tells me it’s his Bilt-Tuff 12v fridge. I said yea right. There’s no way this is keeping my food cool for 4 days. Then he tells me he just needs to plug it in to his car charger and we can forget the ice.

Long story short. The Bilt-Tuff fridge did it’s job and we ate like kings for the whole trip. It kept our food and drinks cold. We set it to exactly the temperature we wanted it to be at. It didn’t drain his car battery (like I thought it would). Best of all, we didn’t have to dump out freezing cold melted ice at the end of our trip.
HAPPY TRAILS!
